Post-study work permit after post graduation

Why Study in Canada?

  1. 1

    Top-ranked qualifications

Canadian degrees are respected worldwide, alongside those from the US and UK. Universities such as the University of Toronto, UBC and McGill consistently rank among the world's top 50, giving you a valuable qualification in every major industry.

  2. 2

    Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP)

Eligible graduates can apply for an open Post-Graduation Work Permit, with no job offer needed. Key points:

    • Graduates of programmes of 2 years or more, and of eligible master's degrees, can receive a permit of up to 3 years.
    • You must study at an eligible institution and meet the language and field-of-study requirements in place when you apply.
    • It lets you gain Canadian work experience straight after graduation.
  3. 3

    Work while studying

Eligible students can work off campus for up to 24 hours per week during academic terms and full-time during scheduled breaks. Many programmes also include paid co-op placements that give you real industry experience.

  4. 4

    Strong value for money

Average international tuition is about CAD 41,700 a year for university degrees and about CAD 15,000–18,000 a year for college diplomas. This is generally lower than in the US or UK, giving you a strong return on your investment.

  5. 5

    Clear pathways to permanent residence

Canadian work experience can help you qualify for Permanent Residency through Express Entry (Canadian Experience Class) and Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs). Each pathway has its own requirements, and residence is never guaranteed.

Entry Requirements

Study in Canada – Entry Requirements

Admission & Visa Process

Follow our straightforward 5-step process to secure admission at your dream university in Canada.

  1. 01

    Get Admission 🎓

    • Apply to a Designated Learning Institution (DLI), which is a government-approved school.
    • After admission you get a Letter of Acceptance (LOA).
    • Most applicants also need a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL), which you usually get through the school.

Since January 1, 2026, master's and PhD students at public universities do not need a PAL. Master's and PhD students at private institutions still do.

  2. 02

    Prepare Your Documents 📄

    • Passport: A valid passport.
    • Admission letters: Your LOA, and your PAL if required.
    • Proof of funds: Enough to cover first-year tuition, living costs and return travel. For applications from September 1, 2026, a single applicant outside Quebec must show CAD $23,448 for living costs, on top of tuition and travel.
    • Accepted proof: A GIC, bank statements, a loan letter, or proof of paid tuition and housing. Officers check where your funds come from in every case.
    • Statement of Purpose (study plan): Explain why this programme, why Canada, and your career goals.
    • English test: An IELTS, PTE or TOEFL result.
    • Medical & police: A medical exam and police certificate, only if IRCC asks for them or your country requires them.
  3. 03

    Apply Online 💻

    • Create an IRCC account and fill in the study permit application form.
    • Upload your documents.
    • Pay the fees: CAD $150 for the study permit and CAD $85 for biometrics.
  4. 04

    Biometrics & Medical 🩺

    • IRCC sends a biometrics instruction letter to your account.
    • Give your fingerprints and photo at a VFS centre, usually within 30 days.
    • Do the medical exam with an IRCC panel doctor if requested.
  5. 05

    Decision & Travel ✈️

    • If approved, you get a Port of Entry (POE) Letter of Introduction.
    • If you need a visa (TRV), IRCC will ask you to send your passport to VFS.
    • At the Canadian airport, show your POE letter, passport and LOA to the border officer.

The border officer issues your actual study permit when you arrive in Canada.
